Internet connection through cable box

i was wondering if it is possible to get an internet connection through a cable box to use a ps3/xbox 360 online. i tried with my ps3 but it didn't show a connection. i haven't tried a xbox 360 because i haven't got one yet but was planning on it since VM are offering a years free xbox live. my wireless router came with instructions showing that the router could done through a cable box so i thought it would be possible to get a direct connection from the cable box to the ps3/xbox 360. is there anything i have to do to get this to work or does it not work at all.

Re: Internet connection through cable box

You can have an internet (broadband) connection from Virgin Media cable if you subscribe to the service. New customers will be supplied with a modem as connections via Set Top Box (the TV unit) are being phased out.

Does that mean those of us using the set top to connect are likely to get a modem at some point in the future?

Free? Will this mean a change in all the settings I have in place to use my wireless router?

No, just power it down, plug it into the cable modem and power it up again.
