That's impressive, you're certainly in the upper half of the results table for 20Mb on this forum

Re: this fast or what

Guess im just lucky (although of course speed tests are meaningless and a real test is using a download manager and a good source site with multiple connections )

Re: this fast or what

I`m just glad speedtests & download tests are no longer the first thing i feel compelled to do before going out in the morning or when i get home again.

Code:
Fri, 14 Sep 2007 17:03:02 GMT

Test 1: 1024K took 767 ms = 1335.1 KB/sec, approx 11001 Kbps, 10.74 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1039 ms = 985.6 KB/sec, approx 8121 Kbps, 7.93 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 1110 ms = 922.5 KB/sec, approx 7601 Kbps, 7.42 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 1897 ms = 1079.6 KB/sec, approx 8896 Kbps, 8.69 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 8905 Kbps, 8.7 Mbps
Speedtests though are currently half of what the VM downloads are, which are bouncing from 1.40MB to around 1.80MB.

I'd like to disprove that theory.

First of all, a speedtest:

Then a download from the gamefiles server:

Shock horror! Strangely, the download from my own ISP is actually a lot SLOWER than an external speedtest!

PS. my download speed should be over 10 times what it is. But as long as VM keep taking our money, they don't seem to give a ****.

Re: this fast or what

according to the speedtest you have a 2MB line a typical download speed for a 2MB line is around 230kb so your doing well to get 214kb.

how do you work out it should be 10time the amount of the download speed?

Re: this fast or what

The up speed @ 728 shows that janipewter is on the 20mbit service.

@ jan, you need to make some serious complaints if that speedtest is happening on a regular basis. Try again using the wormerveer (netherlands) server.

Re: this fast or what

Rarely any problems in Stevenage

Almost always get 18-19Mb/s on speedtests and consistently can download at speeds between 2.1MB/s and 2.3MB/s

Even downloading from the USA (Microsoft Download Servers)

Had a brief period a few weeks back where there was major problems and slow speeds, but that turned out to be an issue with DNS so no complaints here. Bear in mind this is lunchtime on a Saturday too, so usually a slow period for people on the bad UBRs
