Unhappy WTF is going on...

Hi

I am in the Linlithgow area in Scotland, well i'm connected to the linlithgow ubr.

I should be on 20meg but it's running like crap at the moment, come back telewest !

I loose my internet conectivity every week or so and i have to reboot my modem and router to get back online. It seems to me that my ip address is changing and for some reason the change buggers up my router (linksys). I end up with an ip address of 0.0.0.0 Also when this happens i can't get into the web page on the cable modem either, SB4200. I have tried a different router and it does the exact same thing.

Looking at the modem logs it looks to me like its trying to update the firmware but fails due to the firmware being for a different modem.

Here is the log files from my cable modem.

Re: WTF is going on...

Have you reported this to faults? The message about the wrong firmware is normal. Virgin Media just broadcast the firmware to every modem, and those that are the correct type, install it.

Post in the usenet support group
virginmedia.support.broadband.cable

It'll be quicker than emailing they take forever to answer emails, and they will only tell you to ring the support line anyway.

Its all totally normal... Even us at tech support dont touch the modem logs.. its all about signals and levels..

if you're having a 0.0.0.0 IP issue you should contact tech support...
most probable causes for that is .. either a network fault.. or you're macc address is already registered on the network (for EG you have a Cloned Router or NIC Card Macc ID)

Premium rate calls are routed to the first available operator. The great majority are in India, and they are without exception inflexible and unhelpful. On occasion you may get put through to somebody in Swansea. They are far more amenable and helpful. However the "quick response" will most likely not lead to a "quick resolution" if somebody in India answers the phone. Be prepared to jump through a predefined set of hoops regardless of the problem. And the script they follow is designed to "resolve customer problems" not "resolve VM cockups", so if the problem isn't at your end, it will most likely prove be an expensive waste of time. Oh and one more thing. Just don't attempt to budge somebody in New Delhi from his prepared script. They just get aggressive and accuse you of "not co-operating".

On the other hand if he (or she) does report it, and Virgin do nothing, then we can refer it the to the site contact. If we refer it to them, and they don't see a log of Virgin being contacted, then the contact will not help.
