Constant disconnecting

I am in the Harlow Area of Essex, for the past few days, my moden disconnects from the internet every few minutes.

This only happens between 9am-9pm after 9pm I can use the internet/play online games fine.

Its been happening for a few days now, I cannot play any online game, strange thing being, I can download fine, stream fine.

It seems to be something to do with my uploaded packets going wrong? VM throttling it? I'm fare from experience in the area of Networks.

I connect though my ethernet.

I have 4mb broadband, with the 250 cable modem

My connection has been fine since VM took over form NTL, but the past few days have been unbearable.

The problem is not computer related or modem related seeing as I had a new modem delievered a few days ago, I ordered a new one because I thought it was my old one causing the problem. But my internet works fine late at night, is some greedy person in my arena eating all the bandwidth?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Constant disconnecting

What do the lights on your modem do when your connection drops out?
Does it automatically reconnect, or are you forced to reboot the modem?

Send/Receive will stop flashing, jtst had a new modem sent, set it up and the problem persists, Downloading/Streaming all works fine.

But online game are still unplayable, am in-game for 5-10 minutes, then the Send/Receive stop flashing, I got back in-game and it repeats.

Here is a tracert I ran this morning, 1 hour after the new modem was installed.

Re: Constant disconnecting

He's just had a new modem, darthlinux.

I'm having similar problems and I'm in the same town as Adamsde107.

The Sync/Ready lights will go out and all I get is the Ethernet light on and the Download light flashing. It sometimes fixes itself on a modem reboot, sometimes not.

I've had this problem intermittently for the last few weeks.

Re: Constant disconnecting

Similar problems here in the Ilford area, down the road from Harlow, except that it occurs at random anytime, and i lose total connectivity for about 2-3 minutes, and the service then recovers unaided.. 2MB service, new Silver set top box. The connectivity light stays on even when this occurs, but it's not really as accurate a sign as the modem lights... the TV is unaffected (well i think so, the picture breaks up fairly often anyway, and always has, since it was Encom back in the 90s)

Re: Constant disconnecting

Have just tried the modem on my computer downstairs, same thing, disconnects from the internet every few minutes, with the new modem, my Ethernet and Send/Receive lights flash constantly for 30 seconds then Send/Receive stop flashing at all, wait 2 minutes and they're back on.

This has been happening for around 3 weeks? near enough the time Virgin media introduced throttling right?

When NTL were in charge, my connection was perfect all the time, Virgin Media take over and it goes to hell.

Hoping this is sorted soon or I am going with Sky.

Re: Constant disconnecting

I agree. Since Virgin Media took over from Blueyonder, I get disconnections all the time. It's very shoddy.

The throttling has been in place since the beginning of July, and only kicks in at 4pm, so would not be causing your problem. The fact that another user in your area has the same problem would suggest that it is network related.

Re: Constant disconnecting

Today I have actually lost money as everything disconnected while I was downloading something I had just paid for (no, not porn!). After switching my modem of and on I am back online but some of the web isn't working and IRC isn't working). So it must be something going on at Virgins end.

Re: Constant disconnecting

my connection started doing the same a few weeks ago, now its just so unreliable, i have to restrain myself from smashing up the modem.....lol, though in all fairness i dont think its the modem as i have a V+ box in my front room and when my RDY light starts blinking slowly and my connection drops the online light on the front of my V+ box starts blinking slowly instead of a solid light. it went off last night at about 9pm and didnt come on till 11am this morning so thats 14 hours downtime.

im on 4mb using the ntl:home 200 modem.

Re: Constant disconnecting

I was just disconnected again, so I unpluged my modem, waited 10 seconds, then plugged it in. The internet is behaving oddly as it has before. It's slow and some things don't work. The BBC site works, but the virginMedia site is dead as are many others. It seems like they are prioritizing certain websites or something.

Re: Constant disconnecting

Have had this problem for going on 3 months now - ready light changes from being on all the time, to flashing on and off and no internet service at all while it's flashing. Returns to being on after about 2 minutes and the internet returns.

Really really getting fed up with it. Have reset computers, modems, routers, insulted the modem's parentage etc... no result.

I've had another whole day of constant disconnection. I think I will invest in a Richard Branson voodoo doll.
