Help me!

I have just changed to virgin broadband (cable), I was previously with bt. I want to go wireless and i have 2 routers, the bt voyager 2091 and the netgear DG834PN( ADSL modem wireless router).

The engineers still have not came yet, so I can not see if the following setup will work with either router.

The modem is plugged in to the pc with ethernet with no router firstly, I set it up and get a connection. then I Remove the modem from pc plug it into my router via ethernet. so .. PC is connected to router via ethernet and the modem is plugged into the router.

Will this work and can i go wireless with this setup?

My freind has a identical setup it works fine, but I just need a confirmation please?

Re: Help me!

Hi pulli and welcome to Cable Forum

Unfortunately I don't think either of those routers will connect to your cable modem. Some routers can be used with both ADSL and cable broadband but as these units are both routers and ADSL modems they don't have an RJ45 uplink port which is what you need to connect to your cable modem.

Re: Help me!

It should be modem - router- pc . The modem has to be connected , which then sends the signal into router which then shares it wirelessly or hardwired into your pc. You may need to access the routers login page to enable the wirless too , so hardwire it first.

Ah , didnt read your post properly. You defo need a cable modem or router . The adsl one wont work.

Re: Help me!

Yup it certainly is. Go for a Linksys router and you will not go far wrong.

A trip to ebay will sort out the other 2 or you could hand onto them in case you ever need to go back to adsl.

Stick with a decent brand like Linksys, Netgear or Belkin but more importantly buy from a good source: a recommended local shop or a quality online supplier like CCL Online. That way if something does go wrong the supplier won't leave you in the poo while they bank your cash.
