VM 20 Meg - Awesome but drops out...
Just had vm 20 meg put in, and its awesome - only managing 17meg at best but im more than chuffed.
This is my first cable connection, and the modem drops the connection once or twice a night and can take upto 30 mins to get it back (even with reboots), they gave me a new 255 when they came.
Logging into it with root/root shows that its acquiring upstream parameters alot of the time - tried an old 250 modem that i found but its doesnt appear to be much better (never managed a connection at all with it )
If you guys have any tips on how to make this more stable, would be a great help - or is it a vm problem thats outa my control?
EDIT : I have noticed the rates and power levels sticky and will check these tonight.
Cheers

direct ethernet from the modem to my pc - figured router is another thing to cause problems? or do people find better stability with router setups?

p3dr0lina, can you post your upstream and downstream power levels etc, from the modem pages.

Are virgin able to lower this or is it needed to provide the range on the signal?
Thanks

Yes the upstream is high and may be the reason for the disconnections, you need to ring faults and explain you are getting disconnected intermittently, you will ned a VM tech out to lower the level.

Only the latest modem you received from VM will work as that will be the only one registered, assuming the old one was removed off the system when you got a new one which appears to be the case.

I had the same problem. I reluctantly phoned Tech Support and they sent an engineer out to lower the power levels. Touch wood i have not had any problems since. VM also said they would deduct £10 off my next bill and also deduct the price of the phone call to Tech Support.
