You know..I wish that

Telewest Blueyonder was back in charge /sigh ever since there's been problems after problems, not necessarily my own but everyone's, people on here post of slow speed/performance, traffic shaping, limits, unlimited etc..

Back when Telewest Blueyonder was happening I was quite happy cruising my 1mb line, then it got upgraded to 2mb then to 4mb then VM took over... now look at it. Myself just like many of you are either angry or partially happy.

My current 10mb Internet Connection with VM is somewhat... yeah that's what it is somewhat rubbish. Should I happen to be awake at 5am I could enjoy glorious 10mb download speeds via HTTP/FTP anything, just glorious... but then I get home from work and well.. "I'll download that movie" hmm my newsgroups isn't going at 7-10mb it's going at 0.85kb/s yup very good speeds I know.

So let's recap, myself like many of you are paying £37/month for an XL connection of UPTO 10mb (Yes i know it's UPTO 10mb) but it shouldn't be going anything lower than 2mb, I'd be quite happy to pay £37/month for a STABLE unlimited 2mb connection where I could enjoy streaming of media from various sites and also online gaming Battlefield, Warcraft etc.. many others..

Where VM fails imo is the lack of contact about things, I phoned up earlier today to register my new modem (webstar 2100) took over an hour to get that set up (verbally over the phone) having to read off the MAC address 7 times then wait for it to accept it.

I phoned and they said that there is a network fault within my area, the same 'story' that I got told when I had a technican out 6months + ago "it's an issue in the TF7 area"

Yeah right, it's now Tuesday May 29th 2007 and my '10mb' connection is running at..

Tue, 29 May 2007 18:35:02 GMT

1st 512K took 2985 ms = 171.5 KB/sec, approx 1413 Kbps, 1.38 Mbps
2nd 512K took 2922 ms = 175.2 KB/sec, approx 1444 Kbps, 1.41 Mbps
3rd 512K took 3843 ms = 133.2 KB/sec, approx 1098 Kbps, 1.07 Mbps
4th 512K took 2922 ms = 175.2 KB/sec, approx 1444 Kbps, 1.41 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1350 Kbps, 1.32 Mbps

Totally WOW seriously.. now let's see if that's the speed direct from the VM game demo ftp...

Nice speeds! /wahoo

ftp://ftp.virginmedia.com/store2/gen...ler-2007.0.iso

So yeah.. just what do we pay for?

Actually, they are.. The current vm management is largely composed of the telewest management.

Without getting into an argument in any way whatsoever ....

Surely when the companies were seperate they all had different peering buddies, all used their own routes etc, where as now its all under the same umbrella they will all use one set of peering mates?

Surely also some customers would have been 'balanced' over to other gateways etc.

and Surely VM have adopted widespread internal policies that may differ from the original policies that were in place under NTL/Telewest ?

Same Staff, Same Wires maybe, but i cant see how everything is the same.

They are in the process of merging everything, but this won't be complete for years.

That is true, it is nearly all ex-telewest middle management and they favoured ex-telewest buildings and staff which wasn't aways the best decision. (ex-ntl fms)

I agree I would be unhappy, perhaps it was just the word "Everyone's" that touched a nerve for me

I can sympathise and you have a right to be upset/not happy if your connection and service is not up to scratch.

I just wanted to point out that not Everyones service was awful.
