if the fault is on their end, vm should (will, if you ask them!) refund the cost of the call - itll appear as a refund on your next bill.

maybe if you stay as a 56k user on their system, you wont get traffic shaped...

Its 12:35am and i'm still very clearly being shaped.

They are always very quick to turn it on come 4pm, but not so quick to turn it off.

Or is it a case that if you download your allowance just prior to 12am that you are penalised for another 4 hours outside their so-called peak hours and only can return to full speed at 4am?
I was led to believe that you needed to download 3GB of material before you were shaped, yet i get traffic shaped as soon as the PC is switched on. In the words of Mrs Taylor

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers

We are also traffic shaped regardless of the amount of material downloaded during the day. I'd like to know how they thought traffic shaping would be a good thing.

How do you have proof of this? Is it just "any slow speed == STM" or are you for example paying for 4mbit and consistently getting 2mbit during the day?

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers

Paying for 20mbit and getting a consistent 5, when I used to have 10 I'd get 10.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers

Sounds to me like that's a valid complaint you should take up with them and get credited back for the call, along with a personal apology from the people responsible for setting the STM rules on the routers in your area.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers

absolutely dogs mess speeds here in sunny great yarmouth today, 2hr outage last night also, i must say things seem to be going from bad to worse now, i'm currently on 4mb but am lucky to see 2mb at most from premium newsservers today.. bah! could it be that we are being shaped due to congestion regardless of time or amount of content downloaded??

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers

my understanding is that excessive traffic between 4pm and midnight will attract shaping .. and here it seemed not to be lifted till 4am
ish
and the 'excessive' .. ?
innit 350mb or over, in that time period
this aint ON, sorry
