I can't see a link to it from the sign up page? if they were as upfront about it then it would be there for me to see without having to ask for the link to it.

There's lots you can't see from the sign up page, but you have been informed. The link is a few posts back if you care to look. Hint, I posted the link .

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
With the launch of the new Marketplace on XBOX360, i decided to give it a run by purchase and download an HD copy of the perfect storm.
Its got to about 5% and now seems to be crawling along, web sites are now moving at a snails place so I am assuming I have hit the cap and am now being traffic shaped.
Is thier an easy way to tell if im now being traffic shaped?
Given that im not going to leave my xbox on all night, its doubtful that its going to finish downloading tonight. Xbox live should be exempt from the caps!

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
yeah ive just noticed that mine gets capped. i worked out from watching my upload speeds when trying to seed that from 6pm to 11pm every day in stockton on tees, north east england. that my upload speed goes from 40-50k per second to a varying 10-20k , usually hanging around the 20k mark
i think people though should realise that they is not a company out there that offers true unlimited services. you will have hosting companies, or isps and they use the word unlimited when they arnt. they can get away with it due to the small print Subject To Acceptable Usage Policy. which means if you upload or download too much on they services and use up more bandwidth than they class as accepetable then they reserve the right to remove the unlimited services. ive had people who's business was a website and had to move from 2/3 dedicated server hosts because they wernt unlimited like they said. and they either refuse your business, increase the costs so you leave or payup, or limit your service.
its the way the internet suppliers and hosts work. when people kick unlimited about on they adds read the small print as thats the real crack.
i dont mind mine being capped too much, my machine is on near enough 24/7 so its only a few hours and then im back to my peak. but i do think that advertisers shouldnt be able to use the words unlimited when they are limited by acceptable usage policys, but thats down to the advertising regulators to sort out as everyone will carry on doing it, they should really thought include in the small print about the capping though, alot of hosts do tell you what the accepetable bandwidth used is in the small print and things like this should at least make the small print

use a speed tester that tests ur upload and download speed. do one check about 12 noon , then one about 8pm
and note the difference, i wud run the test a few times if it dont take long to get an average.
do you know they a option you can set on your xbox so when you turn it off it downloads anything while its switched off. in my area seems like the shaping goes down between 6pm - 11pm.
but if you look through the options on ur 360 they a good little option to download things while its turned off. works in a similar way to how it uses the plug and play kits to charge. if ur pad needs charging and its plugged in and u turn the system off then it puts the xbox on standbye like a video recorder would be if you pressed the power button. finishes charging the pad when done it switches off fully. does the same with downloads too if you change the option so you dont need to leave it on or play games just to download

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
And we're not talking about just a few video clips. In some cases the top 5% of users were downloading as much as 2GB, just during peak times. That's around 500 music tracks in the space of a few hours.
2 gigs in 6 hours isnt exactly heavy usage especially as its at most popular time. and im paying for a 20mb line and from 6-12 i cant go quicker than 512kb??? im not even sure if im capped as its so oversubscribed in manchester. limiting is ok to a degree but what they are doing is massive limits because they dont want to pay to upgrade their network to be capable of providing the service they advertised.
i download all mys tuff in off peak hours but getting up early just so i can use the internet at the speed it was advertised gets on my tits. and as has been said, they advertise it as 500 mp3s, noone downlaods taht number of mp3s every week, what about games and videos and programs. everything is downloadable now. i guess i download 15-30 gigs a week depending, tahts not that bad considering i pay for a 20mb line, why else would i need such a large internet speed if i wasnt going to use it

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
one thing about them adds they are basically saying they dont mind people downloading illegal content really. because who in they right mind would buy 500 paid up mp3s in a single seshon. maybe 500 illegal ones

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
the fastest speed i have gotten is about 2.5mb per second downloading, so i can download a gig in 5 minutes or a bit more. thats just one film depending on the quality. given that those speeds are the whole reason people buy a a 20mb line, 2 gigs isnt much of a limit
