I've just d/loaded this this morning.....if fact i was doing it whilst reading this thread and i can get far more than 2KB's from peers. It's the upload thats worrying me...i'll never get back to ratio at that speed.
PS: upload has now improved, still not anywhere near what i've allowed tho but i suppose i can't expect much more with so many seeds and so few leechers

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
Shaping carrying on after midnight?
On 4mb, downloaded over 750mb and got shaped, got no problem with that. It's now 12:32 AM and still shaped! Stopped my download and restarted, still shaped at 2mb! So when DOES shaping stop exactly?
Trawling through 100 pages of posts to find some info is tedious, but anyone else have this happen?

No theres definitely no sign of that in my area, please see screenshots of torrent downloads.
Are you refering to shaping hrs or a 24/7 bit torrent shaping regime?

If you go over the quota at 11.45pm for instance you will still get shaped for 4hrs, so wont be back to normal until 3.45am.
Harsh I know.
Theres no need for the 4hr shaping imo after midnight.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
I'd take the traffic shaping criteria as stated on VM's website with a very large pinch of salt or to be more to the point it's rubbish.
Every day my 20 meg connection dives to below 4 Meg at around 16.00 and stays that way for hours. My DU meter shows that I have only slightly exceeded 3 gigs (combined upload\download) in any *month* over the past 4 years. Biggest single day is around half a Gig.
According to their criteria I should never have been shaped so that means that the service just falls apart at around that time each day, they are using criteria other than those stated or more likely are just turning everyone's speed down and hiding a poor network behind shaping for those selfish 5% who actually use what they pay for.
I was a really happy camper on 10 Megs which IMO was a brilliant service but this fiasco is winding me up to the point where VM are going to lose out to Sky, BT and ADSL. It is ironic that the service took a dive when support charges came in which rather tends to think they expected an upsurge in support calls. I will not bother with support as all they will do is waffle my cash away but instead call sales and cancel a £100+ a month worth of revenue to them.

For the record my speed is now 19123 kilobit this morning download via wireless

When they get round to tweaking your area things will improve, I am guessing that the pre-20 Meg upgrading needs fine tuning once it is up and running and can actually be monitored in real time. My overall speed has just been improved and I am getting 1.9 MB/s round the clock, just hoping it stays like this.

OOPS....didn't think about the IP addresses .
Nice speed on your Torrent there but i've no doubt that there will still be some who claim that it's being shaped.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
Just to reiterate what some others have said. I'm shaped at bang on 4pm as well. I can switch my p.c on at that time and be shaped immediately without so much as opening a webpage!

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
I'm not downloading anything today, I'm going to see what happens come 4pm. But I'm not holding out much hope. At the moment speedtest is showing 1970Kb/s with 1ms ping to the Faroe Islands off my 2Mb connection. Will it stay past 4PM? Place your best now.....
It would be nice to be able to work through these issue and to trouble shoot with VM, just to get an answer as to what is happening and why.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
Your mac must be cloned if your getting shaped before hitting 3GB limit. Ask VM to replace your modem....
I was experiencing the some problem on my 250 until it was replaced with 255 and that fixed the problem.
There are cloned modems everywhere I think. VM have to get off there backsides and fix the problem.

Re: Traffic Shaping Affecting All Tiers
forgive me if this has been said already (soooo many pages to look though ).
but...when does Shaping actually come into effect? is it 4pm GMT, or 4pm Local? because, when it just turned there 5pm I've been shaped (and I'm nowhere near 3GB for today, either!), I mean how on earth can I have downloaded 3GB in the matter of a few secs (time synced via domain which is synced with a few UK NTP servers).
And, how do they count the 3GB? is it all day, or from Shaping hours onwards?

Well, this is the great mystery. In theory, it is 3GB in four hours. However, in practice, a lot of people just drop to 20% speed at 4pm bang on the dot, no matter what. I had been away for a month on holiday, got back and was instantly throttled.
Either way VM are lying. It is either 3GB "ever" so it just accumulates until you are shaped, then resets, or it is just whenever VM feel the network is struggling a bit (so every day from 4pm to the early hours then).
