Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
This is beyond a joke now. 7 days on the run and 8 hours a day of them I am spending on freakin dial-up speeds. They say there is no problem yet you check the maintenance page and it says there is a problem. Not only do you get a **** Internet service from them but have a bunch of window lickers working as customer support and technicians. Do any of them actually know how to use a computer or do they just read a script. And bugger me the other day I even got put through to India. Well that was fun I can tell ya. VIRGIN PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT AND LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE DEMANDING. WE WANT THE SERVICE YOU ADVERTISED AND WE WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still do not have 20mb on my Ambit: ntl:200 silver modem in Rochdale.
|
I think i was in one of the first areas to get the upgrade but i`ve still never witnessed
the full 20Mb on our NTL120 yet.Thats about 2 of the 3 months i agreed to wait with the 120 to see how it went and nothings really changed...
Still anyhing from 4 - 12Mbish......sometimes as high as 16Mb even but never the full 20Mb.I`ve seen it do 2000K/bs but it must have been a really good day that happened as i`ve never seen it that high since.
I`m probably averaging a 10Mb service overall but it`s not exactly something i can put a finger on as it`s never consistant

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
Disconnect your router and plug your computer directly to the modem they say,,,a few moments later and a few downloads later “it would seem your speed is ok @ 13Mb/s “ WTF I say that’s just a little over 10Mbs†“yes they say but you have to take into account the time of day with the amount of people who are connected via broadband.â€
So lets get this right with a BT connection it depends on how far you are from the exchange and VM how many bits of string are attached and customers who are on line? “Yes they say but your area is oversubscribed and suffers with congestion.†Oh I say this is why even at 02:30Hrs the connection is still crap when all the oversubscribed customers would be in bed.
They VM are unable to tell me when things will be better as its down to another department. Till then I will have to suffer with real slow browsing until some of the oversubscribed customers leave totally hacked off with VM.
Latest they are going to change my blue 250 modem for a black on with a nice VM badge. I think they are now clutching at straws,,,,,,,,,,,
What totally hacks me off is VM are talking of the 50 and 100Mb service they are trying which I understand the 50Mb service needs two modems, the mind bogles how may you would need for the 100Mb service.
So my answer to the page question: yes but I’m not getting it.

and you dont need 2 modems for 50mb service it will always only be 1 modem

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
From what I can gather after speaking to Virgin, FTP is fine and you generally get full speed but anything running through HTTP port80 is being affected by this speed issue. So you can download off of FTP at a full 20Mb but equally same site but an HTTP connection will only get you a couple of Mb. They have a national fault logged with Cisco as it appears to have been traced back to the kit that they have provided, but finding out exactly where the problem is will take some time.
Hope this hasn't been posted before apologies if it has.
My speed results from 09:30AM on Friday morning:-
Test 1: 1024K took 438 ms = 2337.9 KB/sec, approx 19264 Kbps, 18.81 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 422 ms = 2426.5 KB/sec, approx 19994 Kbps, 19.53 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 421 ms = 2432.3 KB/sec, approx 20042 Kbps, 19.57 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 3407 ms = 601.1 KB/sec, approx 4953 Kbps, 4.84 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 16063 Kbps, 15.69 Mbps

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
Just done another Cableforum speed test to test my Baguley Server connection and got this:-
Fri, 03 Aug 2007 09:14:04 GMT
Test 1: 1024K took 1593 ms = 642.8 KB/sec, approx 5297 Kbps, 5.17 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 1547 ms = 661.9 KB/sec, approx 5454 Kbps, 5.33 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 1485 ms = 689.6 KB/sec, approx 5682 Kbps, 5.55 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 4625 ms = 442.8 KB/sec, approx 3649 Kbps, 3.56 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 5021 Kbps, 4.9 Mbps
I don't know what's happening on the the server but it's not producing 20Mb yet.
Look forward to the day when all the broadband speed tests tell me I have 20Mb.

Thanks for that but why is it there if its not accurate please?
And why is it that all the other speed tests I use merely confirm that my connection isn't operating at or near 20Mbps please?
We're still waiting for news about what's happening on the Baguley server and to find out when we will be getting a connection which works at or as near as possible to 20Mbps.
Customers are asking a lot of questions but unfortunately little or no information is being volunteered or announced on a regular basis to answer the queries.
Checking the Service Status page in the Virgin Media Customer Zone, there appear to be internet problems all over the country but surprisingly I can't find anything for the Baguley Server or Manchester generally.
I realise that the floods in Yorkshire & the Midlands may have had a major impact on underground cables but surely that doesn't affect things here in Manchester.

Regarding the info on two modems this came from a tech who has been working on the trials,,,Me I don’t know a thing about modems but after talking to top level tech support they have confirmed my modem is fine and they can see the area is over subscribed and they can’t give a date when it will be working as it’s a diff department. Yes they are still going to change the modem for a nice black one with a nice Virgin Media badge so I will have the old blue one up for sale on EBay (JOKE)
