Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
I can get 1800-2200 k a sec download rates from newsgroups, yet speedtest only shows my connection as 800-900k :S

Anything simple I am missing?
Thanks, Marcus.

if you are using wireless then yes it can slow it down

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
There is a known problem with slow downloads on the 20 Meg internet service. Check the status page for details, see:
http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do
This has been going on for over a month now. I spoke to customer concerns in the middle of june an they agreed to leave me on the 20 Meg service but only charge me for the 4 meg service. I would suggest that anyone wanting a refund should contact customer concerns, and point out that its a problem with virginmedia's equipment, that the problem is listed on their status page, and that is has been going on for over a month now. They should refund the difference between the 4 meg service and the 20 meg. If they do not ask them to escalate the problem. If that does not work I would get a few people together here, and contact the regulator and trading standards. They cannot charge for a 20 meg service when problems with their equipment prevent them from delivering it.
I would also absolutley REFUSE to use the premium rate line, and insist that customer concerns or their CEO office contact the tech support line That is what I have done. I have also made it clear I will take the matter to the regulator if I have to.
Rob.

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
In Coventry I get 2.35MB/s constantly from Giganews. Drops to around 500KB/s after I hit the limit though Occasionally during peak times it might drop to about 1.67MB/s but it is not often.

Which is what ive been trying to tell people for the last few weeks, but apparently we are wrong lol!
Giganews is the best speed test available at the moment, if you dont get full speed with 20 connections then its a VM network issue.

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
In Livingston (Edinburgh Exchange) upgraded today, upload is great, download is still at 10mbps though, need to determine if this is my 54g router, traffic shaping or whatnot first though

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?
Confused you will be. I was an unhappy bunny on 10Mb as I was only getting just over 4.5Mb so I reduced my connection to 4Mb and I was getting the full load and all seemed to work quite fast it did what it said on the box.
I then phoned CS and gave my 30 days notice and I was given an offer I could not refuse. Part of the deal was I would be put on 10Mb. This is where my problems started because the 10Mb was upgraded to 20Mb so how could I be unhappy? The speed of the broadband connection dropped to well under 3Mbthis was on the 23rd of last month.
A couple of weeks ago I started to get 19.8Mb, this was only for two days and I was back with slow speeds, email going missing. In words a real crap service.
I phoned customer service and spoke to a manager who had been on the same self assertiveness course but he did admit VM are having major problems with the 20Mb service in some areas and confirmed we would only be charged for the 4Mb service.
The upload speed at the moment is 7 to 8 Mb with the full 600k upload and it seems to be working ok. I can send emails and upload web sites, browsing is a little slow.
So if your 10Mb service is working keep quite and be happy because if you get the upgrade you could just be pulling your hair out.
