Overall Average Speed = approx 5927 Kbps, 5.79 Mbps

thats terrible i was getting 9.49 avg on the 10meg..theyve made a right old royal cock up here!!

is there a 10meg tier now? id rather pay less for a quality 10meg connect.

ta.

also ive downloaded an episode of CSi miami off the torrent. i cant have been shaped already..and browsing is terrible!

keV

Why are you taking a speed test result as fact? Why not try downloading something off ftp.blueyonder.co.uk and see what speed you get from there?

Also, downloading from a torrent is unlikely to get you anywhere near full speed, unless you are extremely lucky!

I would try newsgroups also, blueyonder newsgroups will probably give you a much better understanding on how quick your connection is.

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?

If downloading from download.com gave you a poor speed such as 3.5k then I would suggest there is something wrong. I just find it strange, whilst looking around this site that so many people take speed test results as concrete. I always get anything from 3mb-10mb from those sites.

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?

yeh so did i m8! i was just saying..the speed tests are pointless imo..the real use of a 20meg line is multiple downloads or online gaming.so measuring the speed on a single download is pointless..

more bandwith=more taks..i can play games online as well as leaving the torrent running and even surf without it slowing up

its just nice to see the 20meg sometimes!! its what we pay the dosh for.

ta

I disagree
I would much rather be on a 20MB Shaped line than 10MBs unshaped.

I can live with 3gigs for a few hrs of the day!

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?

Norwich - Just rebooted my SACM - config updated to 20Mbit. Download speed is about 2Mbit. I and other techs in the area have visited several subs with the same problem from different nodes and UBR cards. Although getting 13Mbit from ntlservers hmm..

Re: Anyone on the 20mbit/s yet?

Just tested my connection in Rochdale on a 10mb Line

Date of Speed Test: 2007-05-08 18:50:30
Download Speed: 3930 kbps (491.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 379 kbps (47.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

How are these speeds?

Are they about right for a 10 mb Line?

Oh I'm sure VM will sell a 100mb connection next, it will be billed as the fastest in the UK, for £40 month.

The small print will be 'up to' and 'can only be used for 2.6 minutes per day.

The rest of the time you'll max out to about the same speed of a 2mb connection.

AND PEOPLE WILL STILL SIGN UP FOR IT (and will think it's a good offer too).

Yes.

I download from Newsgroups and my connection speed is always full whack.
I can see this happening with 20MB and 50MB when its introduced.

I can live with 4-12 shaping, my downloads are running between 7am - 3pm when i do indeed download the "odd" Linux ISO

Why people cant download in day is beyond me, 3gig is plenty from 4-12 especially when i can download from 12 - 4 at a blisteringly fast 2.4MB/s from my mate Giganews

Why people cant get their heads around this is beyond me.

Ideal for me, if there really are no download limits im actually better off now with this shaping, downloading all day at 20MB/s do you know how much data that is I will need 4-12 to allow for the cable modem to cool down

Obviously each persons circumstances are different, but im well chuffed

And before you ask no, of course i wont be downloading all day at 20MBs, because that would be naughty.

I JUST WANT THE UPGRADE NOW PLEASE VM!!!!!

VM are pretty stupid.

They should have rolled out a 25Mb service instead of 20Mb that way they could have used it as an advertising gain against the likes of Be & UK Online.

But there is NO POINT IF IT's ONLY gonna get shaped!
