4Mb BB (Croydon) Slow browsing speed

While downloading speed is just normal... it takes ages for pages to load while browsing... its been happening for quite a while already... a week or so... any idea? or anyone with same problem?

Punbros, first go to tools, click on internet options then disable images. then it should load quicker. i'm doing the internet on a computer course and it says disable the images/pictures from that site then should load quicker. I hope that helps you.

Currently I use IE7 and FF2.0.. cannot see the option at all you are mentioning about.. beside there is no fun surfing the net with no images at all...

I have second broadband from Orange... while using it... there is no problem at all... just when using the telewest..

I thought it could have been the wireless router that I have... so I went wire... it seemed as it was back to normal but sad to say... its the same slow browsing...

Have you checked the distance between you and your exchange as that can be crucial for internet speed.

That might have a bearing on my speed, admittedly, if I hadn't had perfectly acceptable speeds, without interruptions, for the four years prior to my problem in November. As i posted in my response on the above thread at the other forum, the problem instantly went away when I was switched to a new upstream.

There is clearly an issue in the Croydon area (as well as other areas, from other posts I've read) - hopefully the info I've given will allow punbro to bypass the usual nonsense you have to go through with first line before finally getting somewhere!

Well I don't know if he was 1st line or 2nd line person... but he told me he would do something and that I need to unplug/boot the modem/computer... which I didn't though seems to have solved the problem... well atleast some changes was seen in the speed.

I will monitor the speed over the couple of days and see if its consistent... thanks zebulebu for the headsup... it would be helpful second time around...
