CM replacement
I'm having and NTL engineering bringing me a shine new 250 CM.
Will he take my old TJ210 with him even though I paid for the TJ when I first took in BB (512k), I bought the modem because I didn't want to pay the rental charge.
Am I then able to sell this modem? It's mine I paid for so shouldn't I be able to flog it?

Re: CM replacement
I didn't let him take mine although he asked for the MAC address which i gave him. I guess theres nothing stopping you selling it although the buyer won't be able to enable it on Virgin Media again.

Re: CM replacement
You bought it, you keep it.
It wont work for anyone who buys it thou... so unless you plan on keeping it as a backup, its a binjob.

Re: CM replacement
You won't be able to use it as a backup because the MAC address will be removed from your account. Basically it's a dead modem.

Re: CM replacement
But the MAC address is on your Virgin Media account. When they add the new modem that MAC address will be replaced and it won't work anymore.
No one else will be able to activate that modem again, atleast not legally.
My old Motorola SB3100 is sitting at the bottom of my wardrobe and i plan to bin it eventually.

Re: CM replacement
You can sell them abroad though. I don't think US cable companies have the same sort of restrictions and account set up as they do here. I have seen them selling cable modems in Walmart.

Re: CM replacement
No point keeping it even though you paid for it. Pretty much useless. I'm glad when I was given the choice I decided to rent the modem instead of buying it.

Re: CM replacement
If i were you id keep it. Who knows it might be useful in the future. If the ntl guy tries to take it just tell him that its not theres to take (its nice to be right for a change)

It worked out cheaper to buy my own at the time as i saved £5 a month over more than 3 years. After i got a letter saying saying i would have to pay full price i came up with a good story to get it replaced when i upgraded to 10mbit, so it worked out perfectly. Basically i told NTL it had got damaged and i needed a new modem.

That's odd then, because I've never had to pay a rental charge. Even though I rented the modem, I've always paid £24.99 for broadband. Weird.
