Solved problem with connection/ 250 modem
But I`am not sure why?
heres what happened....
I had a strange problem a few days ago with my 250.
My pc crashed during a benchmarking program & upon reboot I was stuck with the limited connection error, i tried everything i could think of to no avail.
My internal network was running as per, so I knew it wasnt hardware on my PC(I had switched the 2 ethernet cables as i have dual gigabyte lan on my mobo to double check)
I kept receiving the limited error until my sis brought down her 250 which i duly connected and low and behold.... connection!!
I contacted support as i was sure it was a modem problem at this stage and went through with the usual diagnosis questions, the nice lady reminded me that if the error was at my end then i`d be liable for a small charge, she then asked me to hold till she could arrange to send me an engineer round, during the holding period I switched the modems back over and `whooops`all was well again!
Any possible explanation of what occurred fella`s?

I'm surprised your sister's modem worked when you plugged it in. I don't think it's suppose to lol
Oh well, at least you got it working again.

If your sister lives in the same area...the modem will work.
When I moved from one networked property to another in the same area, mine worked straight away.

Really, that's interesting, I never knew that. I thought each line had to be signed to the modem but obviously not. Thanks.

Same thing happens to me every once in a while.
Just switch off the CM at the wall, wait 2 mins and then power up and everything is fine.
STill don't know why it happens though.

Re: Solved problem with connection/ 250 modem
I had tried that mate
Infact, i had tried everything i could think of including repairing the connection on my pc and everytime i received a message saying it was`nt able to.
I very rarely have to reboot my modem, maybe once or twice in all the time i`ve been a customer(since NTL released BB in my area).

Yeh, its a common misconception. Once the modem MAC address is registered on the system, it can work anywhere within that region.
Outside of that I'm not so sure, sorry to continue off topic.

Often, the problem is associated with the router's internal DHCP system. I was always having a problem with my Lynksis router, even after a firmware upgrade. So I turned off the DHCP server, manually assigned an IP address to each PC/Laptop from within the routers working range, and its been stable ever since.

Re: Solved problem with connection/ 250 modem
Had a similar problem recently. Had to dismantle and move my system to let a glazer at a broken window. When I put everything back I got the limited connection message. Solved it by turning off both modem and wireless router but this time made sure the modem was powered on and booted first whereas the first time the router had been powered up first. Then turned on wireless and then computer which is hard wired to the router and everything was fine

Re: Solved problem with connection/ 250 modem
Re plugging another modem in. My NTL Home 100 will not work on Ethernet so I got a spare NTL Home 120 off ebay. The ethernet light is on but just get Server not Found. Is it possible to do something to make it work at another location. Cheers Dave
