net problem!!

i am having a great deal of a problem getting online with a router. my set up is i have blueyonder 4mb, i am recieving that from the box on the wall which goes to my motorola sb5100 modem; no problems there. if i connect any type of networking device like xbox 360 or pc to the modem directly i have no problem connecting, but if i connect the router i cant get any connection. i have had a belkin non wireless router for about a year and been running fine. i recently brought a netgear wgr614 v6 which is a wireless router. i have running this for about 3 days when one day i try to go online and my router is not getting any internet connection. strange i thought so i reset with the little button on the back but still no luck. my router for some reason rarely displays the dns. i have no problem connecting to the router to access the settings but to get actually on a website like google for example is impossible. i thought maybe there was a firewall problem with my pc but i eliminated tht reason as my 360 cant get online through the router either using a wired connection. i tried disabling the spi firewall within the router but still no change. ive changed many cables but it makes no difference then i had the idea of going back to my old router which i know defo works. in goes the old router yet im having the same problem with that aswell. i rang blueyonder support and they sed they dont deal with enquiries with 3rd party routers yet from what ive read on this forum the router i have is the one they give you anyway.
i asked the network lecturer at my college explaining the situation to him but even he didnt have a clue he sed there might be some mac address problem so i started to look into that. i checked all the mac addresses they were all fine. i clone my pc mac address to check that but nothing. i changed the router mac address to that of which the modems was and still nothing. both routers have been reset to factory settings but nothing i do can get me online other than direct connection which in my house hold isnt a conveinent way of having the internet. also while i am logged into my netgear router i can release and renew the ip address without a problem what so ever. i also know theres no problem with the cable at the wall to the modem because i tried the other on the wall box downstairs and theres no change there either.
i rang telewest again who sed my router was working fine with the modem, while on the line i asked them about mac addresses because in the netgear router manual it says if your ISP allows only one mac address to access the internet contact your ISP and tell them to use the router mac address but when i told them this they said they arent trained enough to deal with that kind of thing

can anyone help with this puzzling problem? oh btw i would use the search features but tbh i have no idea what to search for as i dont know the cause of the problem
many thanks
