modem locking up

modem locking up

hi hope this is in the right section have seen a few posts about peoples modems locking up and have to unplug and that restarts modem for a while I am having the same problem ...
thing is I havent seen anywhere how it was sorted .. ie, was it a new modem needed, I am using the motorola sb5101e modem I have looked on the 192.168.100.1 site and in the logs section I am getting this...

If your modem is dropping connection frequently then I'd be calling faults. There is every chance that a signal level or something is wrong.

If you have a router disconnect that before calling faults so that they don't try and blame that, just have a single PC connected direct to the modem.

thanks for reply I dont have a router just straight through to pc also four other people with the same modem are having the same problem in my area, I am thinking something like a firmware update gone wrong but as I am not a technician I am only guessing

Are you doing anything special on your PC when it locks - for example larger downloads, or is it just browsing? Your PC is probably not the cause, but you want to be sure that there is nothing running on it that might be placing odd demands. Make sure you are fully patched antivirused and with current drivers for network cards and the like.

nope not doing any downloads or anything, drivers etcetc are up to date have done numerous virus/spyware checks all come back blank, it locks up whilst doing mainly browsing
