NTL 4MB problems

Hello, iv been having some problems with my Broadband for the past few months and its really gotten to the point now where i need to get something done about it.

I use the NTL:120 standalone modem for connection iv had the thing for years and never had any bother with it at all however since about November when i think they automatically upgraded my account from 1MB to 4MB (£24.99 package).

Since then iv been experiencing disconnects, ussualy once or twice a day sometimes more. It persists ussualy untill i manually restart the modem by disconnecting it from the power.

The other problem is i play an online game called World of Warcraft, i used to have an excellent connection, but since about November my latency has gone from ~100 to 300-500 with lots of annoying spikes and it makes the game pretty unplayable.

Iv been taking some tracert's from the server i play on heres a few of them:

Im no brainbox when it comes to these types of things but could someone give me some sort of idea as to what these traceroutes are pointing too and give me some idea of what i should be suggesting when i speak to an NTL engineer?

Re: NTL 4MB problems

You could try using Visual Tracer http://visualroute.visualware.com/
this may help.

Re: NTL 4MB problems

Having similair problems here in Oxford. On 4Mb connection and can get about half of that if I am lucky on a weekday evening, Phoned NTL last week to find out about cancelling and they offered me 6mnths at 1/2 price, so aint gonna complain too much. Don't know if they are traffic shaping or limiting speed at peak times but it's a bit of a **** take really.

Re: NTL 4MB problems

ntl:home120 modems sometimes fall over when the modulation is changed from 64 to 256. I had disconnection problems with my modem last year when my area went over to VOD. Swapping the 120 for a 250 solved the problem.
