Re: Dead modem psu

Phone it in, get modem replaced for an ntl250 (hopefully). Have you had any other problems with your broadband other than this?

It might be easier to buy a new psu down maplin or off ebay then wait for an ntl tech to come out and replace that.

Re: Dead modem psu

I'd get NTL to install a new NTL:250 modem, then atleast you will have the best modem for 10mbit as most problems seem to be cured by getting a modem swap.

Re: Dead modem psu

One problem, the PSU's are seperate items to the modems, the engineer may just replace the PSU, although that does not seem to be a problem for Scopeuk.

Re: Dead modem psu

The engineers now replace the whole modem have you tried the PSU in a separate plug i.e. direct to the wall?

If this fails it's an engineer visit but don't buy a separate PSU as it could cause other problems and ntl won't be resonsible for any problems that arise from that

Re: Dead modem psu

My psu failed a short while ago, phoned Ntl, engineer called and insisted on just supplying another psu. This was for a TERRAYON Tjet.
Of course YMMV, hope you get a 250.

If it's failed in another socket it's definitely an engineer

Very disappointing that you did not get a new modem. Have a look at this

Re: Dead modem psu

my dad phoned it in today, the account is in his name after a poorly scripted run around with a call centre somewhere in India we finally managed to convince the man that we did in fact know how to operate a transformer and which of the 3 cables in the back of our modem was indeed the power connection. This was of course after switching back to the NTL power supply rather than my current substitute to convince the technician that the power supply was indeed inoperable and not just a figment of our imagination. Engineer visit is booked for Monday just glad I have a substitute psu and were not relying on them.
P.S sorry about the rant it just annoys me that such a simple issue cant be resolve quickly becouse someone has been trained for tech support by numbers rarther than to listen to the customer. i know alot of ntl tech support are fantastic at what they do but this guy was useless. he even had to speak to his superiour becouse agreeing to send an engineer.

It amazes me when someone rings up and says ive got no power to my modem and they make you go through all the script On the other hand i go to lots of jobs where the wrong power supply is being used and there sometimes packet loss or the modem keeps rebooting .Most of the time i will replace both if it is 100 0r 120 modem and the power supply

It is annoying for tech savy people, but you would be surprised at how dim some people are! The guy at the end of the line doesn't know the callers technical ability and has to assume the worst.
