10Mb BB and Cable Modems

Hi

I recently upgraded to NTL's 10Mb BB service, but i have never got anything above 6mb. (only in the early hours on the rare occasion). The guy on the other end of the phone said that by February/March they were hoping to upgrade most customers to 10Mb as their standard baseline package.

My cable modem is a silvery coloured ntl:home 100 one ...can this even support speeds of 10Mb as many on this forum seem to have different cable modems.

Any help is appreciated

Re: 10Mb BB and Cable Modems

There's a good chance that it's the modem not upto the job as you've likely read on this forum. Ntl won't just replace it for a new NTL:250 modem unless they think it's faulty unfortunately.

If you threaten to leave by asking to be transfered to retentions then that department will likely try and stop you leaving. You might be able to persuade them to give you an NTL:250 modem.

Good luck!

Yeah, i've been reading around on this forum and it appears that the NTL:250 modem is the most common/recent

Why will they not send customers a new cable modem?

They don't send out the modems as they don't register the new modems over the phone, so would need to send an engineer/installer out with the new modem. I think the reasoning behind this is that if you connect the modem up incorrectly, not only do you risk causing problems for yourself, but everyone else attached to your card (probably most of your street).

The reason they don't send installers/engineers out easily is purely cost.
