NTL 2Mb BB XBox 360 woes

Hi All

I want to connect my xbox360 to pc so I can share broadband simultaneously. Can I connect my pc to modem, and the xbox to set top box? That would be the ideal wired connection, but how do I set this up?

Advice appreciated.

Sorry that will not work as there will be no broadband on your settop if you have a sacm.

A quick search using the forum search facility found this

This would be the sort of router you would be looking for

Re: NTL 2Mb BB XBox 360 woes

Alright Bill - thanks for quick response.
I dont know if it makes any difference but I had the top box installed a few years before the broadband, so is a different cable. Does this mean I could have a connection at either ethernet socket (modem/set top box?).

Basically I wanted to avoid the router option for cost and simplicity, but it sounds like the router model you suggested will do me for £20...?

What about USB/ethernet cables - does the NTL cable from wall go to router first then modem then pc/xbox simultaneously?

Is ICS setup not an easy option, I have Windows XPS2? Thanks

If you use a Cable modem (SACM) for your internet then you can't have internet from your TV box.

Ntl's wire from the wall will go into the modem first, then the modem is connected to the router along with your computer and Xbox using an ethernet cable or if the router was wireless then having them connected wireless is an option also.

The router is definately the way to go.

You will need the following.

Modem connected via ethernet lead to the wan port of the router.

There will be 4 x LAN ports on the router. Connect LAN 1 to computer and LAN 2 to the xbox, Both via Ethernet.

This will allow you to use both at the same time or 1 or the other.

If you use ics then you will always have to have the computer on when you need to use the xbox. This can turn out to be more costly in the long run than using a router.

This website will help you http://www.networklab.co.uk/cmodem/xbox.html

Forget usb and to add to that you can no longer connect both usb and Ethernet at the same time on a sacm.
