3Mb on an 'upto' 4Mb connection may not be so shabby - are you using ZoneAlarm, for your firewall, for example?

not sure about that one, ZoneAlarm is well known for slowing down the connection speed, the only way to know for sure would be to disable it, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you are behind a router with NAT etc.

Re: Connection dropping in and out

I've been having the exact problem recently. I'm on 2MB in Lincolnshire, and connections just seem to drop in and out exactly like you said. I can't connect to Xbox Live matches or seed a torrent because of it, which is rather frustrating.

If this problem can be solved with a new modem then I may have to look into getting one, since we've been with NTL for about 3 or 4 years I think.

Re: Connection dropping in and out

Just to confirm, the Terayon TJ210 modems do have problems with the QAM256 Network. If you call faults, ntl should replace your modem for free with the latest modem.

Ahhhh, that must be it then. I'll call up NTL tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Excellent, those TJ210's were fine on the lower speeds, but not 10MB, hope it all continues well for you.
