Xbox Live
Hi, I am having a problem using Xbox live on a 4mb connection. When I play a game I occasionally get lag issues and my connection drops when I go back to the dashboard it connects up again. This is also effecting my pc as soon as the xbox live connection goes so does the pc and sometime takes a while to get back.
Are there any known issues with NTL and xbox live, I have heard a rumour that NTL throttles xbox live, is this true?

Re: Xbox Live
How are you connected up? Do you use a router, wireless XBox adapter or Ethernet, etc?

Re: Xbox Live
There are similar issues for myself, several friends in my area and people on my XBL friends list with certain games: main offender is Test Drive Unlimited. The problem only rears it's ugly head when you start hitting your connection with 20+KB/s of upstream UDP traffic (which is the protocol your online games will be using to communicate with other hosts).
I can however happily ftp a file up to funet.fi at 45-50KB/sec though so there is no definitive evidence of throttling, it seems to be more an issue of how traffic is being prioritised.

Re: Xbox Live
Hi Knightlore
I think NTL throttles xbox live? I noticed it a few times when play Gears slow downs and I get the network bad connection error but not had any problems with the PC same as you Belkin wireless router but connect via ethernet wireless disabled.

Re: Xbox Live
Check the following:
1. No-one else is using your bandwidth either with or without your permission (check you are wirelessly secure)
2. Turn off all the PCs etc attched to the router and retry Xbox Live.
3. If it is still laggy try opening the following ports on your router and direct them to the IP of the Xbox:
UDP & TCP port : 88
UDP & TCP port : 2074
UDP & TCP port : 3074
I have found that the issue tends to be with your uprate speed. Several Xbox Live Friends on NTL have reported the similar problems

I am confident in saying that NTL do NOT throttle xbox live.

May I also add that if you go down the manual port forwarding route then you should really disable UPnP on your router (which also means fiddling around with port forwards for any other UPnP aware apps). If you can connect to Xbox live, join online games and chat to other people then opening ports should not be required.
Try connecting your Xbox directly to your STB without the router in circuit and see if you still have the problem.

Re: Xbox Live
I had exactly the same problem and setup as you do exept mines all wired instead of wireless. All those problems went away when i got a cable modem instead of the set top box. I would be playing a nice game of halo and all of a sudden i got the blue screen and everyone had left and had to either reset the stb or reset the console. Both were anoying to do.

Re: Xbox Live
Got my 360 for Xmas, 10mb service and always full speed on Xbox Live. I can download content from the market place (300mb video for example in a couple of minutes).
I have a blue 250 modem and a DLINK DGL-4300 router both work awesome together .
Also, Xbox Live uses these ports:
UDP: 88, 3074
TCP: 3074
Or, you can use the DMZ on your Xbox .
