Internet down

Morning all,
For the last few day's my 4meg broardband has been down . The light's on the modem that are lighting up are
power
sync
enet
rdy
I have spoken to NTL and they are telling me it's my PC that has the problem. I've also tried to plug the modem into my laptop but still no luck. I'm in the GU15 area.
Does anyone know what could be wrong??
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Internet down

Not to sure of the model as I'm at work and it's at home but it's a silver modem which I've had for about 5 years. I think it's a 100. I know it's about 5-6 years old.

Re: Internet down

Did you power cycle the cablemodem before swopping to the laptop?
If not please try that by leaving the modem off for at least 15 seconds, then power it up and then connect the laptop and power it up.
Just plugging the laptop in without doing this first wont work.

Yep tried that. Turned it off for 2 min then back on. I've also tried all this with the desktop PC.

Re: Internet down

Have you tried the laptop or PC on a USB connection to the modem?
Maybe its just the modem's ethernet port that is faulty?

Re: Internet down

Would depend on the type of modem. When you get home can you post the model of the modem?
