Intermittent connection

Hey, I've just returned from Uni for xmas and am thus back to 4mb NTL cable modem bollox as usual. I came back to discover that every 2 to 5mins i get an error message from windows saying "a network cable is unplugged" (as i am writing this its done it already) and then the ethernet light turns off on the modem. All internet activity will stop, msn signs out, IRC disconnects, downloads will end etc. The ethernet light then comes back on about 10seconds later and windows goes about "acquiring network address" and finds the usual IP etc.

This does not happen in Nottingham when I am at university so I assume it will be the fault of the modem or something at NTL's end.

Any help would be appreciated, I have emailed NTL and had no reply as of yet.

Thanks

OK, do the obvious thing and call ntl on 150 from your ntl landline, and tell them the problem, they will do a diagnostic on your modem for you.

IRC and MSN huh, hope you have some decent AV, Trojan detection and Firewall on your system

Good luck, and to the site.

OK, if you don't have an ntl landline, then you can't dial 150, you will have to call them directly, its an 0871 number I think.

Jumping into the thread...(I've been getting very bad download speeds in the CB1 area since this morning, so I'm checking out an threads about problems.)

How do you tell which model you have? Mine has a model number of 60194E-A12 on the bottom, and 192.168.100.1 just says it's an Ambit.

Cheers,

Paul

Doh. So it does. I looked a couple of times and didn't notice that. It's an ntl 100 model. Thanks!

Re: Intermittent connection

Mines a 120 model, bout 4 years old at that, and all cables are secure. Seeing as im only here for about a month i tried out the old USB connection on the modem and it works fine, steady connection must be a problem on the ethernet port of the modem??
