Have you checked the config file to make sure it has actually been upgraded on your modem ?

Do you get that speed if you use an ethernet cable temporarily?

Re: NTL 10 Meg??? yeah right...

How are you checking your speed? What operating system are you running, what software is running and have you tried connecting directly to the modem?

WRK54G? I see the problem, that router is probably the worst one i've ever used, used to always drop connections... It seems to be made from second rate components...

Re: NTL 10 Meg??? yeah right...

OK try this.
Get a live Linux CD or download a small one like DSL (50M) and make your own. DSL can even boot from a USB device. Plug PC straight onto SACM, and boot this, now check your speed. This rules out the router and any duff stuff on PC. Also nothing outside can damage PC as using CD linux.
Shutdown and repeat with router. If speed drops then it's likely to be router or a cable to router. If not and is fast it could be something on PC, repeat booting from disk and see if speed drops to confirm.
If speed is always slow it could be the service, the SACM or hardware issue on PC. If you have 2 PC's connect both to router and move some big files around. If this is OK that tends to rule out the PC.

Don't you think that was a little premature? Did you do any troubleshooting before calling them?

Also, what modem have you got?

Re: NTL 10 Meg??? yeah right...

I "upgraded" a week or so ago, but I'm still getting 4 megs (a steady and reliable 4 megs mind you). I phoned up a few days ago to see what was going on and I was told that indeed I was still on 4 meg because the 10 meg upgrades in my area "hadn't been put through". I was then put through to customer services who were unable to tell me when the upgrade might happen becaue their computers were broken.

I'm sightly sceptical as I've had problems like this in the past. My broadband subscription dates back to the Diamond Cable era in Leicester, and I sometimes wonder how well the DC accounts etc. databases were integrated into NTL. I couldn't upgrade online, my modem wasn't recognised, which I think might be a reflection of this.

So when I phoned up I was pleased that the nice chap was offering me the first month at 10MB at the same price as 4MB. Now of course I realise why that was...

So I'm still waiting...

Re: NTL 10 Meg??? yeah right...

The config file i checked was the one in the power value bit?? it said 1024000download or something like that!!

Ntl came out today and confirmed that the modem was duff, so changed for a 250 model!

Now its even worse, im only gettin 5.6kb download rate and its beyond a joke!! ntl india dont seem to want to care and all they bang on about is plugging in the ethernet cable direct, even tho ive done this several times all she keeps saying is "you have to do it on the phone for me"

Is it time to leave ntl??

hmm, strange problem there. Just to confirm, you've definitely plugged the modem directly in to the pc yes? Taking the router completely out?

Re: NTL 10 Meg??? yeah right...

That's odd. I have the same router and not had any speed related issue with it. But then again I am on 4mb not 10mb.
