Can I slow down my connection

This may seem an odd question but...

Can I force my 4meg connection to slow down so that it emulates the old 56kbps dial-up?

The reason is that I am helping someone with a website and it involves uploading images. It works when I try it but I am worried about time outs for someone using a slow connection, and would like to cover all eventualities.

She only has access to a dial-up connection so it will take longer for her to upload an image.

(Mind you - I think her dial-up is still faster than my 4meg!)

if you use a router then you should be able to throttle the lan port your pc is connected too?

aye - depends on make and model though.... i use a Draytek Vigor and you can throttle each individual port. hence the missus only gets a fraction of my bandwidth.... but don't tell her that!

Re: Can I slow down my connection

I would use a modem on a payg connection for testing because if you slow yours to 56k you will get 56k,
I went dial up and was lucky to get 25k.

Re: Can I slow down my connection

WRT custom firmware has QoS where you can thorttle each computer on the LAN. But net limiter is prolly the best route.

Re: Can I slow down my connection

I tend to use this for testing how sites will load on 56k.

its intended to show the performance of a dialup accelerator, but is useful for testing. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone - will try a few things based on your recommendations.
