Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

Yep you can do that.

The BT and Ntl internet services shouldn't interfere with each other in any way.

Yes, that is possible. If I am not mistaken, you can even get two connetions from NTL. But why would you want to pay for two connections, when a £30 router will give you access on both computers?

Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

If you go with 2 ntl lines you will probably incur an installation fee and as far as a BT type ADSL connection goes, the speed will depend on the distance from your exchange.
What hassel did you have with the router? It could be easier and cheaper to upgrade to 3Mbs and get the router working properly.

Hm, my router has never given me any hassle, and if you used the money you would otherwise spend on a second line to go to a higher tier, you'd be better off (imo)

Edit : what Paul said

Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

The router used to disconect the internet and sometimes it would drop my speed [which i thought it would], just feel it will be no hasstle ,and as i say my daughter will be paying for her line, only worry isa couple of weeks ago i had so much hasstle with my line, speed just dropping to zero, its seems ok now but i had such big hasstle you wouldnt believe they said it was a signal noise ratio thing, the only thing im worried about is if i had another line also with them would i get the same problems, also i was right in reading [above] that i could have a 3mb connection useing a phone line .

Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

If it was a signal/ noise ratio issue and is better now then maybe we should concentrate on sorting your router issue out so that you can have a choice of options to think about?

NTL broadband does not come over phone lines in an ADSL format as far as I am aware.
You would need to look at an ADSL provider like Plus, Pipex, Zen etc.

I may be wrong though...

edit: we have more than 2 PCs connected to a 2Mb connection via a router and even if we all use the internet at the same time, it is not much slower. I think you have other issues which need resolving before getting a 2nd line. For using the internet overall, I notice a minimal speed decrease. If the majority of NTL customers are happy to share their connection using a router-type connection, it must work and your problems with the router lie elsewhere. I would get these sorted before wasting the money on another connection - just pay for the higher tier and get the router working.

Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

As things stand at the moment you couldn't have NTL cable broadband in one room and NTL ADSL in another. As far as I am aware NTL ADSL is branded as NTL Freedom and is only available outside of NTL cabled areas.

Re: can i have two seperate lines ?

your adsl speed is governed by the distance from the exchange that you use
