first hop on traceroute

Hi just a quickie, lately Ive had alot of packet loss on online games so I've been doing a little tracerouting using the tracert command .

The first hop is always this ip 10.218.111.*** and it shows lots of ploss.

Is this normal for a a first hop? as I dont recall ever seeing one like this before?
I did a whois on the IP and its some iana blackhole thingy, what is it?

Running windows xp sp2 all updates, zonealarm firewall and pc is straight into an aging terrayon terrajet.

Re: first hop on traceroute

Yes, it's correct - it's the private address of your UBR.

What do you mean by "lots of ploss" ?

Re: first hop on traceroute

sorry , I mean packet loss

I was just wondering about the first hop because im sure it used to have a much higher first ip segment around 180, I guess the 10 is a result of the speed upgrades?

Ty for your help

It was probably a 172. address. They are used as well as the 10. addresses.
