Connection intermittent

I am trying to sort out (unsuccessfully) my mates bb connection. He has an IP address of 81.XXX.XX.65 which I am led to believe is 'normal'. The connection is really really intermittent e.g when I was round there on Sunday it didn't work at all but tonight it works fine. Previously AOL was used on the PC (I need to check that this has been unistalled next time I am there as I am told this creates problems). If the problem isn't the AOL thing, does anyone have any suggestions as to why there is such a poor connection ?? Could this be a web proxy issue ?? RG30 postcode.

could you provide us with a few details like what your freind connects through ? a set top box or cable modem ? have you checked what happens on the lights of the modem or STB when this happens ?

SACM, and lights looked fine (cannot remeber exactly what were doing what) but seemed OK to me
