Unlikely, if uk servers are ok then it's not going to be an ntl problem, but a uk-us link problem. Can you post a tracert ?

Re: Packet Loss / Gaming : East Midlands/Leicester

Over the last 2 weeks I have been getting really bad pings on game servers at peak times. It never use to do that. 700+ ping on CS and UT2k4.
NTL service really is terrible. To be honest I cant see them lasting much longer at this rate. I am currently waiting for BT to install a line so I can finally get away from the shackles of NTL and generally extreemly poor internet service. 5 engineers in the last year is all it took to get me to use pipex. I ant wait for it to activate

Private message me some MAC or preferably IP addresses and will have a look. However I'll point out to you guys that for some Universitys the new semester started.. oo.. about 2 weeks ago?

Enjoy Thorny and God help you if you have to call their customer 'service' lines If you ever email them ask for a receipt, if you are lucky 2 - 3 days later you'll get a receipt indicating 'deleted without read'

Re: Packet Loss / Gaming : East Midlands/Leicester

I dont believe this... I just wrote a long story about how this has been happening to me since 10-08-04, lots of text, blood, sweat and tears only for this forum to eat it all up in a error!

Anyway here's the short version:
- Problem started 10-08-04
- Tech support pinged the modem (my computer was off) and saw the problem
- Apparently the "Northwood" UBR is over used
- No ETA on when It will be fixed
- I'm NOT happy as I pay for this service for GAMING (cannot be done at peak times)
- I have cable tv on the same cable with a splitter (all installed by ntl, dont think this matters though)

Any help would be lovely.

Ping statistics for 212.42.13.21:
Packets: Sent = 46, Received = 46, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 12ms, Maximum = 724ms, Average = 192ms

This is a UK game server. Its not just this server, its the same on every single server at the time of this. So I guess its NTL.
Ill have my BT line next week but will have ntl aswell for another month. So I think ill go over my 1 gig a day cap a little

Muchly more productive than posting bloody huge strings of pings which don't get read (by me personally) anyway - the max, min and average bit is quite adequate

Pretty please if you want this given attention give me a clue - there are plenty of uBRs in Leicester and I don't really have the time to look through all of them for overutilisation or imbalance.

Re: Packet Loss / Gaming : East Midlands/Leicester

Thorny, you aren't in Leicester so probably different issue in your case.

In any case I have done some work on your connection, no overutilisation at all and the local network is good where you are, pings to your cable modem are sweet.

I've done a minor tweak, let me know how it runs, repeateded this in PM.

Patience is a virtue also, feel free to chase me up in PM as it's far more likely to get a quicker response and please remember I have a job and a family as well as cableforum so am not always on here as often as I'd like nor can I always work on issues quickly.
