Getting a new IP address.

How can I force a new ip address because last night i lost connection through my router, looking at the support pages on their website shows this...

Q: I have Telewest/NTL Internet connected to my router and can no longer get Internet access, but it works fine when I connect my modem/set top box directly to the computer?

A: Please disconnect the power from the modem/set top box and leave it switched off for around 4 hours. Also if it has a reset switch then please reset it. After this time, connect it back to the routers WAN port and then run the setup wizard in the configuration pages again, and the modem/set top box should issue a new IP address to the router.


I have left my modem off over night but still have the same address this morning so the router still wont work, any tips?

Log onto the configuration page for the router, you should be able to force the router to renew its ip address, when you do this, what ip does it then get?

Hi mate, the ip address I get is 192.168.0.1

Two things...

1. I am not sure from your post if this is an NTL or Telewest connection.

2. If you look at the configuration page on your router, if should give you a lease expiry time for your IP address. If you disconnect the modem until after that time, things should (hopefully) be OK.

It could always be a problem with your router!

The 192.168.0.1 is your LAN IP address. You do not have a WAN address. This is the problem.

You may get some milage from connecting the modem directly to you PC and typing ipconfig /release at a command prompt. May well do not good, but occasionally helps.

Looking at the pictures, you may well have a problem with your router. Have you checked that the WAN light comes on when you connect it to the modem?

Yes it does, all lights flash away like normal, I have been in the command prompt and released and renewed till I am blue in the face lol

I dont understand it as it was fine last night then just stopped working.

Forgot to mention, if I plug the modem into computer it works fine, just like normal.

reboot the modem and the router and restart your machine....

If your connection is fine without the router then renewing the ip address isnt going to change anything.
I cant view the jpegs you uploaded so cant comment on that.

If you can view the router config file then the pc is seeing the router.

Best suggestion I can give is contact the router tech support for help.
