DNS lookup problems

RM14 area - can't get DNS to work, and Massive SMB traffic against the Microsoft_DS port - I suspect firewall backtraces are overloading DNS.

Seems to hold together in forced proxy, as the proxy seems to be able to DNS alright.

Re: DNS lookup problems

Why not just turn off the "backtraces" then ?

Re: DNS lookup problems

It is very unlikely that a few people who have firewalls doing reverse lookups are going to overload ntl's dns. You mention elsewhere that you are beta testing some firewall software - are you sure that isn't your problem ?

Re: DNS lookup problems

All ok now, the DNS problem came on very suddenly, coinciding with the unexpected appearance of port 445 junk that made me first think there was an attack, and then realize that it had dropped out of the previous blocking ... also rebooted the STB since.

Several PC reboots didn't help, nor did putting BT and Freeserve DNS's in, though dialup to the Freeserve did work ok.
