webcam/port forward/trigger/ip etc

Hello,
I have xp pro and a netgear WGR614 router/switch/spi. Also i run NIS 2003 on the pc. Looking in the router it reports my internet port as having an ip of 81.***.***.***
lan port 192.168.0.1
pc 192.168.0.2

however a visit to www.whatsmyip.com flags my ip as 62.252.192.8 which i suspect is wrong.

I also posted the following to a webcams usenet group as follows:
i have been following the recent thread on using windows media player
encoder to stream webcam onto the internet and also the comment about
wincam2000
I have downloaded wincam 2000 and i think this would suit me better.
I am not too clear on port forwarding/triggering. I have a netgear
WGR614 router/switch/firewall.
I understand how to get my ip as issued periodically by my isp and
that this ip is "addressing" the input side of my router and not my pc
directly.
Also that the ip of my router by default is 192.168.0.1

Also that my pc is an "attached" device and that it has been assigned
the ip 192.168.0.2 by the router.
In wincam2000 the default port to forward is 8080
In the port forwarding section of the netgear menu i have set it to
forward port 8080 tcp/udp to the server address of 192.168.0.2
I have not set port triggering
I asked a friend to try out my cam from her networked pc at work. It
displayed a web page with access forbidden by access control
...something or other
can anyone advise further?

END Quote

Can i rely on the reported ip in the router as being correct rather than whatismyip?. Also are there any special problems using NTL and webcam?. The wincam2000 software only seems to indicate that i need to use port 8080.

netstat report is as follows:

Re: webcam/port forward/trigger/ip etc

to the site!! hope you enjoy your stay

the ip reported by whatsmyip.com is the ip address of the proxy server that you are using, whereas the one reported by your ip address will be your actual external ip address.

To get the webcam working, try changing the port that your webcam is using, and then forward these ports to the pc with the webcam on.

The message about access being denied may be caused by proxy servers that your employer is using, because at work i am not able to access cpanel for one of my websites, and get the same error message. If you want, i can try the webcam from here, so then you can rule out your friends workplace as the problem.

MB

EDIT:you will also need to set NIS to allow incoming connections on the port that the webcam is using.

to the site dooper786.

I concur with Monkeybreath.. Thats your proxy and not your real IP.
The starred out value will be your real IP

Everything you have done so far is correct. But you are running NIS, which will block all incoming connection attempts on port 8080. You must therefore configure NIS to open port 8080 to any incoming calls.
