Webcaming - need to open ports - help please!

Hi,

I am using ivisit to webcam to my family in the States. I am having problems getting it working. Ivisit tech support say I need to open following ports:

OUTGOING:

Local UDP port 9940 (sometimes called local source port)
Remote UDP port (ALL) (sometimes called remote destination port)

INCOMING:

Local UDP port 9940 (sometimes called local destination port)
Remote UDP port (ALL) (sometimes called remote source port)

How do I do this on a ntl cable modem? I am on an imac too.

Thanks
Jamie

You open ports in a firewall or router, not a cable modem. Do you have a firewall or router?

I thought as much! I wanted to check that the cable modem was not in fact a router.

I have a firewall but only the standard one that comes with OSX panther. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to open ports though!

Thanks

Well, if you can't disable the ports you might have to shut down the firewall while you use the webcam. Have you tried a search online to see if there is any way to open the ports in your firewall?

To use your webcam with the Mac OS X Firewall active, follow these steps to add the necessary ports:
1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. From the View, choose Sharing.
3. Click the Firewall tab.
4. Click New.
5. From the Port Name pop-up menu, choose Other.
6. In the Port Number, Range or Series field, type in:

9940

7. In the Description field type in: iVisit
8. Click OK.

I think he meant the Mac - not the camera (unless you did as well).
