What is supported by Virgin Media... and what isn't

The Boundaries of Virgin Media Technical Support are not something that are always clearly defined, and i see a few threads, and hear a few people complain at work that ntl have recommended something and then refused to support it.

I would just like to clarify the responsibilities of Virgin Media as an isp and what they do/ do not support.

The ISP's responsiblility is to provide you with an internet connection. Any software that is installed on your computer that may be blocking your connection is your responsibility. Examples are norton, mcafee, zone alarm and sygate. All are linked to the relevant support sites.

Virgin Media also do not provide support for home networking, excepting the Virgin Media supplied Netgear wireless router, if you need support for any router/firewall that you have installed, please use the following links:

linksys
actiontec
d-link
belkin
buffalo

Problems with the operating system on your pc are also not the ISP's problem, if you have been told that you have a 'winsock problem' on win98/me see here for the solution, and if you are getting a 169 ip address on winXP see here.

hope that helps all of you!

Cheers
Chris
