The atkins diet is a balanced diet.
People assume that it means no carbs, it doesn't.
Yes you cut out the carbs when you start, to break your body's addiction, but you re-introduce them slowly until you reach balance.
Then you carry on with a balance of carbs, fruit, veg, meat and protien. Probably more balanced than a lot of other diets on the market!
If someone abuses it and goes underweight, that isn't the diet's fault anymore than with people who just stop eating all together or vomit after eating.

there have been incidents, where people have done harm to there kidneys following the atkins diet.
you need a 'balanced' diet not an exclusion of foods.
