The Pacific

Just watched the first episode started off slow, a little back story of the main characters but then into the thick of it at Guadalcanal.
Very much along the lines production wise as BoB. Very enjoyable, plenty of blood & guts and some language as well.

Re: The Pacific

I agree it started off slow, but then again so did BoB. It definately looks like it has the potential to be as good as BoB going by the first episode. I enjoyed it

Re: The Pacific

Although it starts off slow, it gets into the action a lot quicker.

Re: The Pacific

This series has proven to be such a disappointment but then it had too much to live up to when compared to Band of Brothers. Since it was produced by the same team comparisons are inevitable.

Too often time was spend focusing on the personal lives of the soldiers away from the field of conflict. Band of Brothers had very little of that concentrating more on the relationships and dependencies of each of the combatants on each other that made them into that fighting unit. The campaign as such seemed quite fragmented and disjointed as they hopped from island to unrelated island. OK that may be how it was but it didn't leave the progression that we saw in BoB. It may just be that for us in the UK the Pacific events were not "our WWII". But what really let it down for me was that until the penultimate episode I dodn't really get a feel of the sheer horror of the Pacific War, yet with BoB virtually every episode left you feeling in awe of what those guys went through.

But one thing that did strike me, with the biography of the soldiers at the end of The Pacific, was how few of them are still with us. We are sadly seeing the end of the generation that fought for the freedoms we enjoy so much today.
