Re: CR3 and Channel Re-numbering to take place in MARCH!
I haven't heard anything about channel re-numbering. It would put the call centres into meltdown to do the rollout of a new STB code and channel re-numbering at the same time. Ain't gonna happen.

Re: CR3 and Channel Re-numbering to take place in MARCH!
When Telewest rolled out their latest software they re-numbered some channels at the same time, and whenever the customer put the TV on it would go to the Info Channel to explain what had happened ie. software upgrade and channel re-numbering, ntl could do the same...

You have no idea how the system works. It is not possible to change the channel numbers on a region by region basis. The software downloads happen on a region (or at most couple of regions) by region basis. All the channel numbers change in all the regions at the same time.
Ain't gonna happen. I ain't just guessing here !

I assume you mean 'ain't gonna happen at the same time as a software rollout', rather than 'ain't gonna happen at all'?

Sorry, I havent worded it very well. Yes Tristan you are right. I'm sure it will happen at some point, but it will not happen at the same time as some other major work.

Re: CR3 and Channel Re-numbering to take place in MARCH!
But I rule the roost on DS, too!
Seriously, I would expect LCR3 to be a little faster and hopefully more stable than BCR3 (although that said, I haven't had it crash on me for a long time). Hopefully it will fully support a full BBCi service as the new Telewest software seems to, but time will tell. Certainly I wouldn't expect anything revolutionary over what CWC people have.
As far as channel number changing goes, I would be surprised if it didn't happen something like this: NTL send out a mail to all customers, something along the lines of "Your digital TV service is changing...", explaining that over the next few weeks the current software will be replaced with a new, feature-packed blue version, and the channel numbers will be changing "over the next few months". If they're sensible, they'll include a userguide for CR3. This in addition to the blanket coverage they'll no doubt be giving it on Channel NTL. That should at least ease the calls to CS.

I imagine that they are planning on sending new user guides out as it would mean fewer calls to cust service, eg Why's the epg blue? where has this gone? how does this wrok?

Can any of the ntl bods give us a version number? Will it be v6 or something, instead of calling it CR3 as that's a bit misleading as the features we will be getting will be much more advanced than CR3 (supposedly)

Why does a version number matter? CR3 on Bromley is garbage anyway. Dont know what all the fuss is about

I'm not convinced about any of this. There is only Februarys bill before March now, and they are saying nothing about this upgrade in all the blurb inside this months bill. I would imagine an upgrade of this proportion would be proceded by some mention of the change. Come March it will be coming in May no doubt

The problem is Gary that the speed of your interactive facilities is linked to your broadband speed if you are using a Set Top Box with built in cable modem.
Once facilities are standardised on Bromley and Langley platforms I think you'll find that there will be a lot of changes and improvements, but sadly interactive speed will still depend on the speed of your service.
If you want detailed explanations then Tristan is your man. He has an impressive knowledge displayed both here and at his other roost on Digital Spy!!

The STB built in CM is as capable of 1Mb or more as the rest of them. If you don't have BB you still get interactive and at a speed of 128K AFAIR. This is faster than dial up, but the performance of interactive is not. Perhaps this is down to the performance of the box, the interactive servers, the priority interative requests get, but bandwidth is not an issue.

There was nothing mentioned when ex-CWC CR3 was rolled out either as far as I know, woke up one morning and it was purple! Although on Channel ntl a few weeks before it had a New TV Guide thing for like a day, then it was gone, I was thinking I imagined it for a while
