which stb
hi everyone this is my first post, so be gentle with me please.
i've been having al sorts of niggly problems recently with my service , i'm excw with 600k bb with full package tv (£100 quid a month)
the main problem is lack of interactive on bbci, it just keeps crashing, my mail server which seems to go on holiday every weekend and my remote control which you have to bang to get it to do anything.
so i rang ntl faults on wed and spoke to a relly nice lady who put me a new remote in the post (came today sat) and got a techie out thurs to look at my box. he put the blue screen on, went ouside to the green box, had a fiddle then came back and said he couldn't find any faults. so i turned the stb back on and proceeded to show him how much better the tv picture was through the aerial than through the stb. he said "it looks alright to me mate i'd watch it" i then showed him the door.
after he'd gone i got really p....d off 100 quid a month for a load of tosh so i had a search on the internet and found this site, amongst the mine of information i spotted the phone no for the nw operations director of ntl, so i gave him a bell. f**in answer machine, so i left a nice message (can you call me back i've got some issues)10 mins later i've got the head tech on the phone promising the world, he's gonna give me a new pace 4000 box and seperate cable modem and he's gonna get warringtons head tech to come and install it for me. well cool and the gang i'm actually gonna get some service.
fri morning warrington head tech calls me arranges to come out mon aft with the head broadband tech as well.
now, after speaking to various ntl people i can't get a definitive answer to my question which is the best stb and is it better to have a seperate modem?
so you guys and gals out there whats the best setup, which is the best box?
can you help me out here with some really tricky questions to trip him up,
anyway tanks in advance, i'll post again on mon and tell you what happened

Re: which stb
The best STB is the 2000 series. Ppl might disagree, but I know for a fact that the 4000 series has serious reliability problems. I've had this confirmed by lots of ppl on the web, and several ntl engineers, who gave me my 2000 series box.
In actual fact the best box is probably the new Samsung one. Its pretty much the same spec as the 2000 or 4000 series (I cant remember) but is more reliable. (Pace snaffed over their 4000 series) But its pretty hard to get hold of these, as ntl are trying to get all the Pace boxes used up 1st.
A seperate cable modem is probably better, but I have a fine service through my STB.

Re: which stb
I don't have any problems with my BB through STB but if you keep losing connection then maybe a Cable Modem might be better.
Don't forget to make the chaps a nice brew

Re: which stb
it all depends on which BOX 1000s are OK if you are near a mux a 4000 is a wast of time 2000 are great .
Check your menu up then dwn then blue on the remote a menu comes up post back the STB type ditv 1000, 2000, or god forbid 4000.
Tell em you want a 4000 phase 2 or 2000
Also power levels thats SNR and return path
BTW send the warrington head tech my regards he knows his stuff you wont get any better tech in NTL . Network guys not included praise to BBK

When Wimbledon's on you get it - No Wimbledon it's a lottery whether someone pushes the ON button on

Re: which stb
the BB part of the 1000's crash all the time but they seem to have the best upload speed. The 2000's dont crash but the upload speed doesnt seem as good as the 1000's. The 4000 is hit and miss my mate has one and usually loses all interactive and bb
