Poor reception?

Hi all I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone may be able to help. I had NTL Broadband, Cable TV and Phone installed last week and am very pleased but some of the TV channels stutter. It only happens to certain channels (Skysports News, TMF etc.) and not others. Does this sound like a signal fault or maybe a dodgy box? In the case of it being a poor signal can anyone recommend a good signal booster that is compatible with cable TV. Thanks in advance. Regards, Mark.

it may be an area fault, if it only affects some channels?

you shouldn't mess about with connections 'to' the ntl box, but most signal boosters should cope with anything you can get 'out' of it

But obviously as the TV->STB Interconnect is Analogue poor signal wouldn't cause stutter, but only a poor picture.

Gary, not sure if I understand what you are saying here.

Never put a signal booster in between the ntl box and the ntl network. The booster may well boost the incoming signal, but all return paths will be stuffed, and the amp is not designed for cable so won't isolate the network from ingress noise.

EDIT : Sorry I see where you seperate the In and Out now Gary!!!

Hi homealone thanks for the quick reply. I've read a few other posts on this forum and they mention SNR. I presume this has something to do with signal levels. Is there any way i can tell what signal my box is getting? (It's a Samsung box if that helps). Thanks, Mark.

Page Up, Page Down and Blue combination seems to work on most boxes these days. SNR will be on one of the pages.

I'd be OK with above 31dB.

Tho I think it will work Ok down to 29 or so dB.

Pre and more importantly Post RS values are a good indicator of issues. Post should be zero, or errors are getting through.
