TV Signal Supply Query

Here in Bracknell, when my house was built, the forestry in the area was a big enough problem to cause problems with the terrestrial television signal to cause the local cable company to cable up the streets and put in a connection to the house to enable people to watch normal (BBC/ITV/C4) tv without paying for a cable subscription. I can therefore pick up BBC,ITV,C4,C5 and QVC without any problems simply by plugging my TV into the aerial sockets provided.

There are many other Free to Air channels these days and is there a way to get any of these by connecting any sort of set top box to the aerial socket without requiring an NTL subscription?

You won't get anything out of the Ntl cable other than those that the OP has already listed - freeview boxes won't work on NTL.

If you have a bit of equipment (VCR, telly) that can pick up UHF and VHF then you may get some extra - we get Sky 1, CNN, Paramaount Comedy, E4, MATV on our telly in the bedroom as it will pick up both UHF and VHF. The other bits of equipment we have only pick up channels 1-5 and QVC though.
