Newbie - NTL vs Sky+

Hi, Currently got Sky+, but the box and Sky are really annoying me. Sometimes records, sometimes doesn't and only 13mths old - the hard drive died this week! Can get a new drive for £20, sky want £65, even more surprisingly it is under a 3yr manufacturers warantee - so I'll purchase a new one and get my duff old one replaced too as a backup (that takes 2 weeks as postage to Ireland).

So, annoyed with Sky. Does NTL offer a Sky+ alternative? I'm hoping it does as I heard rumours last year of a new service. Also hoping that the merger of Virgin has improved customer helpdesk - I used to have broadband and spent may hours hanging on the phone......

Also, is there a list of actual channels each package gets? The NTL site seems a little vague on this. Opting for NTL would save me money, so if this is a valid alternative I'm there...

Many thanks

Mat

If you are in a NTL area then forget any form of NTL+ till next year . Get your Sky+ fixed it will work out better in the long run.

Suggest you look here The box in that thread is the NTL pvr "not comeing soon"
And to cable forum

Only about 5 years after Sky brought out Sky + you mean?

ntl-others lead, they follow (eventually).

That would be fine if you could actually get a PVR from ntl, but you can't as they are so backward.

You can get it in Telewest areas, but not ntl.

Do you still have to pay sky to use the recording features?
