Re: digital picture quality via cable box

may be a silly question, but have you set the STB output to be RGB rather than the default composite?

What kit do you have connected to the TV? Maybe other scarts etc. Is the interference recognisable as coming from one of the other sources (VCR/DVD etc) It sounds like crosstalk to me, another source is interfering with the STB picture signal.

Re: digital picture quality via cable box

Is the scart input on the TV an RGB one (not all scart sockets can handle true RGB)?

Re: digital picture quality via cable box

as creative said, its crosstalk, perhaps a bad ground someware, to test it , simply disconnect the other scart connector(s) when you see the 'horizontal and vertical lines across the picture causing distortion'.

you can see crosstalk best as the current picture cuts to black between sections of content, so tune your STB to one of the ntl 'unsubscibed channels' to see it better to try and cure it.

you should instantly see an improvement and indeed they should disappear, then its a case of working out the grounding etc.

as neil said, however you should always get RGB on at least scart 0 as thats the standard, you may or not get it on the other scarts
