Depends how it's been placed - is it stacked ontop of or underneath any other hardware?

Mine isn't, but then mine is in an open wooden cabinet, on a shelf on it's own and has plenty of ventillation at the sides and back, and on top..

Re: Samsung Box ~HOT~
Its on top of a dvd Player (which i dont use much) In a cabinet.
I suppose ventalation could be an issue although its an open backed cabinet..
I may move things about a bit.

Re: Samsung Box ~HOT~
on my last ntl bill - it said that in hot weather especially, you should ensure that the stb has ventalation... surely common sense?

Mine is warm to the touch (it sits on top of a speaker and is well ventilated - and is currently catching dust from decorating), even on standby, but after watching TV for a while I can still pick it up without leaving my skin behind.

Sounds similar to me (except I have a closed back cabinet....)
Its warm to the touch, but your finger doesn't sizzle when it touches it. That said, its not all that warm weather-wise around here...
Ventilation is definitely important with STBs... I had one (Pace 2000 though) that died because of the heat... Thankfully NTL replaced it, but others might not be so lucky if the engineer turns up and its too poorly ventilated...

Standby doesn't make an awful lot of difference to NTL boxes. All that gets shut down is the output to the TV Scart, the RF (Aerial) output, and the phono outputs. Don't believe me? Attach a TV to the VCR Scart when the box is in Standby mode. You'll still get a picture.

 to Cable Forum
It may be the heat from the STB. But the DVD player shouldn't be very hot when it's on standby

really annoys me you have to unplug the box to turn it off in these days of trying to conserve power it is really short sighted of NTL not to insist there boxes have them.
though i will admit they draw very little power but add them all up and you suddenly have an issue. add to this people that leave there tv's and everything else, on stand by you have not only a big waste of money but more emissions more warming higher sea levels etc etc
