Duff STB?
Getting very long pauses between changing channels.
Powering STB on and off sometimes results in an "8888" on the STB display, sometimes an "Err", sometimes comes back up OK... for a while. I guess this means my STB is on its last legs. Unless anyone knows otherwise? It's a 1000 that has served well for a few years.

I'd ring and report it, get a 2000 replacement, just in time for Christmas ..

That would mean I'd have to turn my central heating on, or do the 2000s run just as hot?

And to think I used to laugh at my grandad's tales of raising his tomato plants on his old valve-driven TV set -- that's progress for you: solid-state plant propagators

If you use the up dwn blue button on the remote in that sequence it will take you to a menu check the levels return power and SNR post them back on here. We might be able to help

You just need to press page up, then page down, then the blue button, not at the same time. I'm not sure if this only works in ex cwc areas though...

Well, after 24 hours and 3 power downs (and without incanting any magic spells) it is back to normal again. So maybe it was a signal problem rather than the STB itself.
