Cheap as chips :)

We ridded ourselves of the rubbish ntl tv services several months ago. Can you you imagine our surprise when a kindly agent from ntl phoned us on Tuesday saying we could go back onto the base package for £2.50 a month (£5 on our first bill).

Needless to say we snapped the offer straight out of there hands (i would pay more just for Sky One).

I would give a huge thumbs up to ntl but even i can recognise that this deal isn't financially plausable. How do they manage it? How much do they pay to Sky for channels?

Isn't this type of offer just suicidal?

Maybe costs for the base really are that low once installation, network maintenance etc. is out the way they are just breaking even at that price and just want to bump up figures for the investors.

or maybe not

I take it they never collected the box? So no install needed.A paying customer even on a lower rate is still a paying customer

The pace box was collected several months ago, tho they did leave the remote

I'm not complaining but just wondering how delivering an stb, fitting cable and employing a contractor is worth the £2.50p a month? Even at minimum wage the installer would be worth £5.10 an hour.

I take it you already had the phone service then?

Sounds like a good way to massage the figures!

Ditched the TV services and replaced my BB connection with an NTL cable modem. To have the BB service i HAD to keep the phone (which is hardly used - £10.50 for feck all)

Not true. I have recently ditched my phone line in favour of VoIP when NTL tried to start charging me £10.50 line rental (was free for several years before then). Only have BB now through cable modem. Of course isn't the phone line included in the TV package so for yoru £2.50 wont you get line rental too?

99p! Hell fire - that's just daylight robbery

My family content=four so "cheap as chips" is a good description

This is what i'm trying to highlight here. You say you pay no line rental for phone services but the vast majority have to. The current advertising blurb is three for £30 but i'm paying a great deal less than that. The one thing that has always annoyed me about ntl is there inconsistence. Why offer a great deal such as 3 services for 30 pounds but not stick to that deal nationwide?

Re: Cheap as chips :)

but you said you HAD to have the phoneline?

So you are saying if you called NTL to drop the phoneline they would up your BB prices?

What I am saying is if you called them to drop your phone service they have to.

Line rental was never free, it was in with the price of the TV.

Re: Cheap as chips :)

It's not possible to sign up for ntl services without the £10.50 phone line rental. If you have achieved such a task then i'm sure there are millions of other customers who would appreciate how you manged to do it

Re: Cheap as chips :)

details are in another thread. i had tv bb and phone - dropped tv. Got BB and phone for free. NTL obvioulsy made a mistake and decided to start charging me line rental. recently cancelled the phone line and i am not just getting BB.

Now you have tv then yes you need the line rental but if you didnt have tv you can drop the line rental and ONLY have BB

Re: Cheap as chips :)

you can have BB without a phone line, but you cannot have tv without a phone line

Anyway, is it Base Pack or select pack that you have signed up for?

Ntl are probably not paying sky much either package- have you looked at channel line ups? not many sky channels All the UKTV channels are owned by BBC & Flextech... and Flextech is part of Telewest... and Telewest and Ntl are now as one.... you get the picture
