New STB
With the previous STB, which had the analogue co-ax as well as the digital cable feed, thus I was able to record something on while watching the other but now with no analogue aerial hooked up I assume I can only record whatever channel the STB is set to so that does away with that option.
I was just wondering if anyone might know about the combined VHS/DVD recorders at a reaonable price from Argos, I notice that they are either single format or double format, what does that give you? excuse my ignorance, ( bit thick you see)
Cheers, gedr.

You can get a bypass fitted that will let you record these analogue channels. However, it does not seem likely that NTL will continue to broadcast analogue for much longer (Telewest will be stopping at the end of this year).

I do not know, but why do you need a VHS recorder - I think these will die out pretty quickly.

Re: New STB
I have plenty of tapes, I suppose really I'm looking for a way to be able to view one channel while recording another, I don't think they will disappear overnight, after all, while people have the equipment and they can still get the tapes they will still keep using them, don't you reckon? but that's only by the by, not much to do with the price of fish.
Thanks, gedr.

Sure, but a DVDR/VCR will not help you do that!

Re: New STB
Yes, of couse, I have just realized you must have two inputs to achieve this
doh, my problem is a bit complicated in that I can only sit in one particular seat, so I have the TV ect. on a wheeled trolley which I can pull over to my seat, but I do have an old Phillips combi so I figure I could record a tape on it and then play it back through the VHS/DVD I think.
I don't have room for another trolley for the combi, or that would be an alternative, unless you can think of anything else.
Cheers, gedr.

Only in some Langley areas, I believe no where in Bromley do the by-pass.

Re: New STB
I have heard about a bypass but I don't think that would help me, I am really curious to know how other people get on when they want to record one channel and watch another.

Re: New STB
I think a lot of people either have a terrestrial aerial and are able to record 2 channels or if they only have a signal from ntl they can not.

Re: New STB
SLM
You're quite right about that, when I first went to ntl in 1999 I was told I had to have a terrestrial aerial, if I didn't have one they would get one installed, it was something we had to have it seemed.
When I had the previous STB I was able to cable and then record terrestrial channels, but now progress dictates that I must have another TV so that I can do the same thing.
When terrestrial gets phased out here in the west of the Anglia Region it will be about 2011- so what then?

Re: New STB
I think by then there will be stb's with multi tuners in so you can watch and record at the same time.
I believe ntl are bring out a new box later this year that has this technology

Re: New STB
SLM,
Thanks for that, I think that'll be the answer.
Any idea where info on that can be found?
