Sluggish Changing on TV
Hiya guys, hope i haven't repeated a topic:
Has anyone been experienced pretty slow channel changes now and again i find if i wanted lets say channel 809 for the beloved UKTV People (Top Gear)
I end up having channel 8, 80, 0, 9 or channel 809 its not that i am slow to press buttons but its the box taking so long to respond to what i am pressing.
not just channels but sometimes can be going through guide and it takes forever, or maybe you press the red button, get a cup of coffee and wait.
Generally the picture quality is excellent.
I have bb as well for background information that cable has a t-connector one goes into cable modem and other to cable box.
As mentioned picture is fine, cable internet works fine to

Re: Sluggish Changing on TV
I believe its the PACE boxes showing their age the software used on them is somewhat over complicated for the hardware its running on.
they used to be fairly fast when they where running the older software.
Each update has added new features (which is great, especially vod) but the downside is the STB is finding it has more and more to deal with.
The samsungs are newer boxes so probably have a more powerfull processor as well as more memory.

Re: Sluggish Changing on TV
Try rebooting the box, it is like a pc, you would not leave it on for days/weeks else it would lock up, same as the box I find they work better if you reboot at least once a week.

Re: Sluggish Changing on TV
My Samsung has been on for four months and has never needed to be rebooted, freeview box's never need to be rebooted and when I had sky I never needed to reboot that. NTL pace STB's are just a load of cheap crap!
And if a box should ever encounter a problem and need to be re-booted it should be very rare!
NTL think it is the norm to do it almost daily!
And if it is the norm as they make out why have they not added a power/reset switch to turn it off instead off having their customers climb behind tv sets and over loads of cables to unplug it???

Re: Sluggish Changing on TV
Sure am. It was terrible last night. It took 10 to 15 seconds to change channels and the EPG froze. Reboots do not work either, still the same. It must be them (ntl) doing something at the headends. I've also got DLR extension work taking place in Woolwich. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. AMEC have already severed the BT Phone lines (took 3 days to fix). I'm just waiting for them to sever NTL cables. What joy.
By the way I'm on CR1 BROMLEY PLATFORM.

Re: Sluggish Changing on TV
I am very familiar with the OK/LEFT/TV combination (Reset) - seems to clear everything from broadband foulups to the all too common loss of lipsync. If anything goes wrong, you assume it's the box that's fouled up, not the broadcast - must admit though, the latest firmware does manage to do the red button stuff without an automatic crash - the last one on the snooker performed pretty well flawlessly.
Do the PACE boxes behave better if they aren't also serving broadband?

not sure for definate but our pace box ISN'T serving broadband and its usally ok apart from being slow at times.
It doesn't need rebooting as much as some peoples here seem to need to, although I don't think the guide gets used much just the mini guide and changing channels.
Oh and the oaccional use of VOD if they happen to have a topgear on it I missed and theres nout else on
